Bring in your own story

The recording supplies the timing of the film. An acted performance also supplies pauses and emotion that generated narration may not reproduce. Use a short passage for your first project so you can review the entire result.

Lesson 3 of 14 · Mac edition

In the app’s walkthrough: Your library · Production guide: Import your story

Before you begin

Prepare material you have permission to adapt. Use matching text and audio when you have both; check that they contain the same passage.

Work through it

  1. Create a book and add a chapter

Use the library’s Add menu to create the book, then Add Chapter. Give the chapter a name you will recognize in exports.

  2. Supply the text

Paste the chapter text or choose Import Text File…. Remove unrelated front matter when it is absent from the recording. Keep speaker names and stage directions useful to understanding the scene.

  3. Choose your audio starting point

Use the Audio control to choose a recording or generated narration. For a recording, use Choose Audio…. If starting with text, configure narration and its provider first. Listen to the generated reading before committing to a large visual job.

  4. Set processing choices

Choose the Script model and Character linking model. Review Split takes by and maximum take duration against the workflow you plan to use. Add sound effects to every take is optional and has its own model choice.

  5. Add a style reference and create the chapter

Use images and a description that match the film you want. Create Chapter, then follow script-generation progress. The app transcribes the recording and builds timed takes; text-only work first needs its generated audio.

  6. Review the resulting takes

Play the first few takes and a passage near the end. Check the words, speaker, timing and on-screen action. Correct a bad split before generating pictures for it.

Try it in your chapter

Create a chapter from a short recording. Compare one spoken sentence with the take that contains it.

Check before moving on

The chapter has timed takes, usable source audio and a cast you can review.

If something goes wrong

Processing appears to stop

Read the last progress message and check provider errors or rate limits. A long request can still be running. Check the active task before launching another copy. If it fails, keep the error and chapter name for support.

Words and pictures seem out of sequence

Compare the supplied text to the recording. Correct take boundaries and re-extract affected audio before continuing.
